Importance of Preschool
Preschool is an important part of early development for a child because it helps set a child up with the proper skills and structure to succeed throughout their education. Kirby Hall’s primer program provides an extra scaffold between the crucial Pre K years and the kindergarten years. At Kirby Hall children will also learn foundational and explicit reading, writing, and math skills.
Kindergarten Preparation
There are many things a child should know and be able to do before they can enter kindergarten. This includes tasks like writing their own name and identifying numbers and letters. They must be able to pick up after themselves and be able to listen and follow simple directions.
There are also certain levels of social skills and behavior that are important for a child to understand before going into kindergarten. Positive social skills and the demeanor of a child are important to both ensure that there is a healthy teaching environment and friendly social environment for the entire class.
If a child is not at the right level of preparedness, they may not be able to attend kindergarten that year, but there is nothing wrong with waiting an extra year to make sure your child doesn’t have a stressful first year of kindergarten. Preschool is a great way to help a child learn these things and be better prepared to enter kindergarten on time.
Promotes Social Development
Many children do not get regular interaction with other children of their same age during their early years. This might make it difficult for them to interact with other children when first entering kindergarten, since they have not fully developed their social skills. A great benefit of preschool is that it allows a child to interact with others in a safe environment with supervision. It also allows them to learn the proper way to deal with other children in a constructive way. This social development can make entering kindergarten much easier for them.
Language and Cognitive Development
Being around other children in preschool, as well as teachers, can provide children an opportunity to develop their language skills by helping them practice communication with other children and adults. They can also learn new words and expand their vocabulary. It provides them an excellent opportunity to learn and understand basic grammatical rules.
Structured and Safe Learning Environment
Additionally, preschool does a great job of providing structure to a child’s day. They begin to learn that certain activities take place at certain times of the day. This is reinforced by being in a safe environment with smaller classes, which gives them a more focused learning environment with instructors. This structured atmosphere will help them have a more successful transition to kindergarten.
Early Academic and Mathematics Development
Preschool also provides children with a more comfortable learning experience where they can develop the skills they need to enter kindergarten. They will learn skills to prepare them for reading, as well as counting. By building an early foundation in these things, they will have an easier time building and developing these skills throughout their school career.
As a parent, it is important to give your child the best possible start in their lives. Preschool attendance has been shown to help children make an easier transition to kindergarten, as well as give them the groundwork for basic skills needed to advance their learning experience.
