Kids (and even parents!) look forward to the summer break all year long. Time away from classes allows families to relax and recharge so they are ready to tackle the next grade ahead.
While the freedom from a hectic school schedule is a huge benefit during the summer, the structure of a summer camp alongside those lazy days at home and vacation trips can be equally beneficial.
Right about now is the ideal time to decide what your child’s summer plans are and if you’ll be enrolling them at camps.
Kirby Hall School in Austin offers a variety of summer camp options for kids of all ages.
Attending summer camp–whether a day or sleep-away camp–provides children the opportunity to:
- Make new friends and nurture their social skills
- Unplug from their often too-plugged in lives dependent on electronics and mobile devices
- Learn a new skill/hobby or delve deeper into one they are already interested in
- Ease the summer slide: interacting with other children and engaging in thoughtful, organized activities will make heading back to school easier later on
When choosing a summer camp, make sure to involve your child in the process and ask them questions such as ‘what are you interested in,’ and ‘are you ready for sleep-away camp, or do you want to stay close to home?’
Other things to consider when researching summer camps are cost, availability, and schedules. Many camps fill up fast, so it is important to know the application deadlines and when deposits are due.
